Dedicated to Service

Our Chapter has many service that it provides to our bands and our community. Below is a list of many of the recurring events our chapter participates in and conducts. This is a small list of things we do each year, but in everything we do we put forth our best effort and attitudes and we're always looking to expand our list of services anytime.

  • Razorback Marching Band
    • Open/close and maintain equipment shed
    • Measure and paint location dots on the practice field
    • Make the field accessible (it’s locked during the day) and ready before the start of rehearsal, as well as stay late and lock up
    • Take care of all equipment, from instrument rental at the beginning of a season, to moving all equipment for games, pep rallies, and exhibition shows
    • Create a “Bus Loading” roster for away trips as well as our twice per year trips to Little Rock, AR for games so band members can don’t have to load their own stuff and it’s quickly unloaded upon arrival
    • Provide fruit and water/powerade at each game for every band member as well as serve lunch and/or a snack before and during each game day, both home and away
    • Promote Band Spectacular Exhibition show, produced each fall for our boosters, alumni, parents and patrons as well as the community
    • Organize and conduct several social events:
      • Early Week Activities for Band
        • Outdoor water fight and social
        • Game night with video games and singstar and guitar hero in the band hall
        • Band Follies – talent show/comedy hour with Kappa Kappa Psi and Tau Beta Sigma
        • Formal/Dance to kick off school year
        • Gator Golf Night – Putt-putt
        • Scavenger Hunt on campus
        • Cook-out with Alumni
      • Halloween Party – involved a huge haunted house hosted by Kappa Kappa Psi and Tau Beta Sigma
        • Also included a canned food drive for the homeless where people donated canned foods in order to go through the haunted house
        • Also included a reception with movies and games and a costume contest
      • Banquet for the Red/White game – we set up tables and chairs as well as moved equipment used for the red/white game in April
      • The Red/White game is being followed by a dance also held by the Brothers of Kappa Kappa Psi and our sisters of Tau Beta Sigma
      • Day at the Capital – Organized the band’s participation in the “Day at the Capital” where we played in Little Rock to promote the arts and music in Arkansas
  • Concert Bands (Wind Symphony, Symphonic Band, Concert Band, Campus Band, Jazz Band)
    • Make sure rehearsal area is arranged and rearranged before each rehearsal/ensemble change
    • Maintain physical appearance of our band hall and our dress rehearsal halls in performing arts center (daily sweep of floors and halls)
    • Move equipment from band hall to places of performance (usually Walton Arts Center)
    • Work as stage crew during performances and move equipment back to band hall after performance
  • Hogwild Band (basketball/volleyball)
    • Move and store all equipment for each game/activity (moves between Bud Walton Arena and Barnhill arena after being stored in equipment shed at our marching field)
    • Serve dinner (usually pizza) with drinks before each rehearsal/game on a weekday
    • Serve drinks during the game immediately following halftime
    • Setup, store, and move sound equipment for guitars and drum set before and after games
    • Pack and move equipment for all tournament trips
    • Provide drinks for long bus rides and on away trips

We also do several activities within our community. The following is a listing of those activities to our community and its surrounding areas.

  • Organized a pep band that played with local high schools around the community during their own basketball and football games – this included playing University of Arkansas spirit songs with their bands and bringing new music for them to use and play at their games
  • With the help of alumni we played our instruments at several local elementary schools and preschools – while there we played spirit songs from the University as well as taught students about music and what some of us (namely music majors) planned to do in that field
  • Some of our members have been able to regularly attend local public school band rehearsals and teach sectionals and lessons
  • Several brothers promoted the band while playing at the “Remember the Championship” banquet as part of the festivities
